The island division of NoGa operated once again from the rustic facility of Phil, W3HZZ, at St. Simons Island. Operators were Phil-W3HZZ, Pickett-AD4S, Norm-WA4ZXV, Mike-ND4V and Larry-N4FD. Larry came by Sunday and really helped us increase our "Q" count. He had operated as a rover on Saturday.. The set up crew went down on Thursday and began setting up several new antennas, unpacking, setting up and checking out the 3 Elecraft K3 transceivers and miscellaneous contesting hardware including an ICE filter, electronic keyers, laptop computers and such.... and driving to the grocery store and the local BBQ joint..! We even put up a temporary 3 band Yagi at about 18' and it worked fine. Phil had his web cam trained on the installation so some NoGaNauts were able to watch the raising which was done in a pretty good wind storm. Our host, Phil, treated us royally for all of our hard work by preparing numerous gourmet meals. We nearly doubled our number of contacts from last year and did double our score. If anyone else has pictures from GQP-2013, please send them to me and I will include them in this album..! Pickett, AD4S Click on any of the small pictures below to see a slide show..
